Embroidered Chain Stitch

Using an embroidered chain stitch to add a decorative element to your crochet pieces.

How to Embroider a Chain Stitch on Crochet

Using a tapestry needle to embroider a chain stitch onto your crochet pieces is simple and easy way to add details and interest to your piece.

Take a look at the video for full instructions for how to complete the stitch, but, if you are just after a quick refresher here are the key steps to remember.

  1. Thread the length of yarn required (ideally no longer than your forearm) to a tapestry needle and secure to the back of the work.

  2. Bring the yarn up where you want the stitching to start and pull the yarn through. Hold onto the yarn with your thumb and take the needle back down where you came up from. Bring the needle up through the centre of the loop you have just made.

  3. Repeat until you have as many chain stitches as you want. To secure simply make a small stitch just above where you last came out to catch the final loop.

  4. Turn to the back: secure and weave in end.
